“Do your homework, know your annual consumption in KWH. Go to PVWatts web application and do your best to size a system yourself, for example if your total annual is 12, 000 kWh, then you could start with a 7KW system. Then if you like high pressure sales contact the zero down 20 year+ solar sales companies, and by the way it takes sometimes 30 to 90 days after to be commissioned. Or, contact American Solar and Roofing and have a well designed system installed and commissioned on average in 90 days start to finish. “We are a customer with a 20 year lease on our system. For the second time in 12 years, our inverter has failed. The first time we were down for a long period of time (unsure exactly how long) but for this failure we have been down since mid August, and the messages keep saying that it is expected in 3-4 weeks, then 1-2 weeks, then we are expecting it!!?? “American Solar contacted me regarding the age of my inverter. They said the inverters usually last about 10 years. I contracted with them to replace the inverter for over 4K. After the installation of the new inverter only half of my panels are producing as they broke one of the leads from the panels to the inverter. Apparently they think it is my fault that the technician broke the lead and they want over 3K to run a new lead. “What started out as a bad experience has turned into a great experience. We were first quoted $2000 to fix a solar problem. When they went to rewire our system, it turned out to be a simple problem. They could have charged us for it, and we would have never known. I want to thank them for being honest. “Unlike the other reviews my experience with American Solar and Roofing was the worst vendor experience I have ever had. They were to re-roof my house and casita after removing the original solar panels which they installed . The roofing project was delayed several times, they did not re-roof the casita until I figured out it hadn’t been done. They failed to re- install the bird guards until I found they had not been done. I could not get a correct billing until I involved the **** and they failed to order an already paid for new inverter and once it was received it took almost three months to get it installed even when they realized that the project was a disaster at every turn. It was apparent that there is little, if any, project management and quality control. “After years of trying to receive service from American Solar with no response, I was extremely surprised to have received a service call from you. What took place was a 180 degree turn from your previous atrocious service performance. An inspection was done and it was determined that some parts replacement were needed. Yesterday, the maintenance was done. I want to tell you that the person, Jesse C. Was great!!! He worked in the blazing sun for approximately 10 hours without any complaints or issues. He was professional, diligent, and courteous. Thank you for sending him, and you should be proud to have such a person working for the company. “On August 5, American Solar tech came to my home to repair software as I recently changed router. He fixed one system but never connected the Sunny Portal system. I have called their service department multiple times but never received a call back. I have e mailed them; left more voice mails, but not a single call back from American Solar. I paid $350 for this service call and feel robbed. I filed a complaint with the BBB.
