“Started the solar process late in the year. After a couple visits to take photos for the local permits (which took a while) things went pretty smoothly, weather permitting. I managed to complicate things by having other electrical work done at the same time, but that all worked out fine. Their email responses were quick and informative, the electricians were clean , timely, and nice to chat with about the setup. Other companies may be larger and faster since it was a 2 man crew, but this went well, seemed more organized and done right rather than as fast as possible. “SGE just finished the install of my system. Matt was very pleasant and came to my home to discuss the project. Once the contract was signed that’s when the lack of any type of communication became intolerable. It seemed that any communication had to instigated by me to find out when the next step would happen. A crew showed up installed half the panels left at lunch time and didn’t return for 1 week and a half. Once they finished the install they left with no word. I waited a couple of days to call then when I contacted them they tell me I’m waiting for an electrician and he’ll contact me. A couple more days go by I call again and they give me the electrician’s number to call to find out when he’ll be there…. “Started with a great sales process, but everything was down hill from there. Once contract was signed, service fell apart and whole process was incredibly frustrating. Paperwork would arrive unsigned at the inspector, solar loan was incorrectly filed, debris was not cleaned up, and whole process took 3x as long as communicated during sales process. “We contacted several vendors and SGE’s response was great and the best. Doug Wahl spent multiple sessions with us figuring out how to get a 10K system on our oddly configured roofs without a lot of panels showing on the street side yet still producing what our annual consumption has been. Doug was knowledgeable and worked through several iterations of the layout. Installation went well. There were delays but they were not SGE’s fault; long permitting process, back-ordered panels, and one other something I can’t remember. Doug was also great helping me get status and other information during installation. The system has been running for 9 months, electric bills have been $0 and we’ve built up a good kwh credit. “We had a very good experience with SGE Solar. Met with a handful of local and national companies and these guys seemed to be way more knowlegable than the others. I asked them to show me 3 systems, good, better and best.. and we decided Sunpower (best) was clearly the option for us. Did not feel pressured at all.. was explained all of our options clearly.. they offered a no fee, low interest loan from a local credit union which was better than others showed, but we did finance on our own using a HELOC. Install happened 5 weeks after giving the go-ahead and we were interconnected with the grid about 2 weeks after that. Energy production has been higher than expected thus far. “Through the initial process of planning out the array and costing the system Ed and his team did a great job of educating me on my options, and changing the system to meet our needs. The installation and activation process was guided and smooth. We’ve had the system installed now for a year and a half and it has covered all of our electrical needs, and covers the electricity for our electric car. We had one hiccup during installation with a missing electrical panel cover, and it was corrected the next day. What I want to call out in particular is the continued relationship after the initial installation. They’ve been great with sending our SREC revenue. We also had a historic winter and one of the panels in my array was damaged. After contacting them with a photo and information they did all the leg work to make sure the panel was replaced under warranty. I cannot stress enough how painless this process was, and how thankful I am that I went with Second Generation Energy. I have several friends who have gone solar, and their post purchase experience has paled in comparison to mine. Our system seems to be working now but we have had terrible, really terrible problems communicating with this company.
