TABLE OF CONTENTS

1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

Personal information you disclose to us

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you submit a solar quote request, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.

Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:

  • names
  • phone numbers
  • email addresses
  • mailing addresses
  • the address of the property where solar installation is being considered
  • property and energy information you provide in our solar quote form, such as your approximate monthly electricity bill, whether you own the property, and details about your roof or home
  • contact preferences

Solar Quote Requests. Our Services include a solar quote form. If you choose to complete it, we collect the information you enter in order to route your request to solar installation companies serving your area. Please read HOW WE ARE COMPENSATED AND WHO RECEIVES YOUR QUOTE REQUEST before submitting the form.

Sensitive Information. We do not process sensitive information.

All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.

Information automatically collected

In Short: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services.

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our Services, and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes.

Like many businesses, we also collect information through cookies and similar technologies.

The information we collect includes:

  • Log and Usage Data. Log and usage data is service-related, diagnostic, usage, and performance information our servers automatically collect when you access or use our Services and which we record in log files. Depending on how you interact with us, this log data may include your IP address, device information, browser type, and settings and information about your activity in the Services (such as the date/time stamps associated with your usage, pages and files viewed, searches, and other actions you take such as which features you use), device event information (such as system activity, error reports (sometimes called "crash dumps"), and hardware settings).
  • Form Interaction Data. When you interact with our solar quote form, our lead generation partner and its service providers may record technical information about that interaction — such as timestamps, page URL, IP address, and a unique identifier — in order to document the consent you provide and to help prevent fraud. This is collected through services such as Jornaya LeadiD.

Google API

Our use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, to connect you with solar installation companies when you request a quote, to communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:

  • To connect you with solar installation companies. When you submit a solar quote request, we transmit the information you provide to our lead generation and distribution partner, which routes it to participating solar installation companies so that they can prepare a quote and contact you. We are paid for each qualifying request.
  • To respond to user inquiries/offer support to users. We may process your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the requested service.
  • To deliver targeted advertising to you. We may process your information to develop and display personalized content and advertising tailored to your interests, location, and more.
  • To evaluate and improve our Services, products, marketing, and your experience. We may process your information when we believe it is necessary to identify usage trends, determine the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns, and to evaluate and improve our Services, products, marketing, and your experience.
  • To identify usage trends. We may process information about how you use our Services to better understand how they are being used so we can improve them.
  • To determine the effectiveness of our marketing and promotional campaigns. We may process your information to better understand how to provide marketing and promotional campaigns that are most relevant to you.
  • To comply with our legal obligations. We may process your information to comply with our legal obligations, respond to legal requests, and exercise, establish, or defend our legal rights.

3. WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

In Short: If you submit a solar quote request, we share your information with a lead generation network and with solar installation companies, and we are paid for doing so. We also share information with service providers and in the other specific situations described in this section.

How we are compensated and who receives your quote request

In Short: We are paid for each solar quote request. Your information goes to a lead generation network, which passes it to solar installation companies who will contact you.

How we make money. Our Services are supported in two ways: by advertising displayed on our website, and by payments we receive when we deliver a solar quote request. We do not charge you anything, and requesting a quote is free.

Who operates our quote form. Our solar quote form is operated by Profitise LLC, a lead generation and distribution network. When you submit a quote request, the information you provide is transmitted to Profitise, which routes it to participating solar installation companies serving your area. We receive payment for each qualifying request, and Profitise is separately compensated by the companies that receive it. This means we have a financial interest in your submission of the form. Profitise processes the information it receives under its own privacy policy and privacy request procedures. If you would like to make an opt-out, access, or deletion request to Profitise, you may contact them directly, or contact us at [email protected] and we will pass your request on.

What the installers receive. The information shared includes your name, contact details, the address of the property concerned, and the property and energy information you enter. Solar installation companies that receive your request are independent businesses. They determine how they use that information, act as independent controllers of it, and may contact you by phone, email, or text message. Their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies and terms, not by this Privacy Notice. We are not responsible for how they handle your information, and we encourage you to review their privacy practices before providing further details to them.

Our reviews and ratings. Our editorial content — including our reviews, Expert Scores, and Expert Choice, Market Leader, and Trusted Provider badges — is produced separately from these commercial arrangements. A company cannot pay us to receive or improve a score, badge, or ranking on our Services. However, some companies that appear in our reviews and rankings may also receive quote requests through the network described above, and we encourage you to take that into account when using our Services.

Your choices. If you do not want your information shared with a lead generation network or with solar installation companies, please do not submit the solar quote form. You can browse our reviews, guides, and directory without submitting it. If you have already submitted a request and would like us to stop sharing your information or to delete it, contact us at [email protected]. Please note that we cannot retrieve information already provided to Profitise or to a solar installation company. You will need to contact those parties directly, or ask us and we will pass your request on to them.

Vendors, consultants, and other third-party service providers

We may share your data with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors, or agents ("third parties") who perform services for us or on our behalf and require access to such information to do that work. We have contracts in place with our third parties, which are designed to help safeguard your personal information. This means that they cannot do anything with your personal information unless we have instructed them to do it, and they commit to protect the data they hold on our behalf and to retain it for the period we instruct. This paragraph does not apply to solar installation companies or to the lead generation network described above, which act as independent controllers of the information they receive.

The categories of third parties we may share personal information with are as follows:

  • Lead generation and distribution networks
  • Solar installation companies
  • Ad Networks
  • Cloud Computing Services
  • Data Analytics Services
  • Data Storage Service Providers

We also may need to share your personal information in the following situations:

  • Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
  • When we use Google Maps Platform APIs. We may share your information with certain Google Maps Platform APIs (e.g., Google Maps API, Places API). Google Maps uses GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell towers to estimate your location. GPS is accurate to about 20 meters, while Wi-Fi and cell towers help improve accuracy when GPS signals are weak, like indoors. This data helps Google Maps provide directions, but it is not always perfectly precise.
  • Affiliates. We may share your information with our affiliates, in which case we will require those affiliates to honor this Privacy Notice. Affiliates include our parent company and any subsidiaries, joint venture partners, or other companies that we control or that are under common control with us.
  • Legal Obligations. We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so in order to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process.

4. WHAT IS OUR STANCE ON THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES?

In Short: We are not responsible for the safety of any information that you share with third parties that we may link to or who advertise on our Services, but are not affiliated with, our Services.

The Services may link to third-party websites, online services, or mobile applications and/or contain advertisements from third parties that are not affiliated with us and which may link to other websites, services, or applications. Accordingly, we do not make any guarantee regarding any such third parties, and we will not be liable for any loss or damage caused by the use of such third-party websites, services, or applications. The inclusion of a link towards a third-party website, service, or application does not imply an endorsement by us. We cannot guarantee the safety and privacy of data you provide to any third-party websites. Any data collected by third parties is not covered by this Privacy Notice. We are not responsible for the content or privacy and security practices and policies of any third parties, including other websites, services, or applications that may be linked to or from the Services. You should review the policies of such third parties and contact them directly to respond to your questions.

5. DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

In Short: We may use cookies and other tracking technologies to collect and store your information.

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (like web beacons and pixels) to gather information when you interact with our Services. Some online tracking technologies help us maintain the security of our Services, prevent crashes, fix bugs, save your preferences, and assist with basic site functions.

We also permit third parties and service providers to use online tracking technologies on our Services for analytics, advertising, identity resolution, and lead verification purposes, including to help manage and display advertisements and to tailor advertisements to your interests. These third parties use their technology to provide advertising about products and services tailored to your interests which may appear either on our Services or on other websites.

Specific information about how we use such technologies and how you can refuse certain cookies is set out in our Cookie Policy. You can change your preferences at any time using the Consent Preferences link in the footer of our Services.

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

Please note that our lead generation partner and the solar installation companies to whom your quote request is passed retain your information under their own retention policies, which we do not control.

8. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent's use of the Services. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. Opting out of contact from solar installation companies: If you have submitted a solar quote request and no longer wish to be contacted, contact us at [email protected] and we will stop contacting you and pass your request on to our lead generation partner. Solar installation companies that have already received your request may also be contacted directly to stop their communications.

At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.
