I also called Austin Energy just to see how it affected the power lines, and within a couple of hours the Austin Energy crew came out and took care of the problem at no cost to me. “Been without power for over 20 hours and despite multiple technicians supposedly coming and finding nothing amiss, they still refuse to fix the broken meter — already looked at by a third-party electrician who can’t fix Austin Energy meters without penalty. “Austin needs options for electricity providers — COA is a monopoly in the Austin area. They charge $35 if your payment doesn’t go through, with no way to have it waived. When I called to make a payment, I was told since they tried my closed bank account again I’d get another $35 charge and would be forced to pay in cash due to two failed payments. “They are trying to charge me $556 and tell me my bill is late when they were sending it to an old address — I never received any emails or paper bills for two months until I contacted them myself. Then they offered to waive a $200 deposit only if I sign up for autopay, and warned that if I’m ever late on any autopay they’ll charge me the $200. They dropped the ball by not updating my address properly, then want to charge me for their mistake.
