“My solar panels were installed in July and it has been a nightmare. They tried to help us but basically told us to pay an extra $7,000 on top of the $15,000 for a battery to fix our problem. Clay Electric is still charging us over $100 every month when they promised us it would only be a $32 fee. Chris Shaw from EnLight Energy told us Clay Electric would only charge us a small fee, but since they changed their policy he refused to grandfather us in. Chris promised to talk to Clay Electric and never did. We are both retired — my husband is a military veteran — and we thought we were doing the right thing. They sold it as if solar was the best thing for us, promising no more than $215 a month in electricity for the rest of our lives. Now our payments are over $300 because we’re paying Clay Electric and paying off our loan. “We live in Gainesville, FL and are on Gainesville Regional Utilities. Our paperwork was done and submitted to EnLight Energy before the April 2024 deadline. After a few months of receiving electric bills much higher than we estimated, we contacted GRU and discovered EnLight Energy failed to submit by the deadline — even though they promised us it was submitted in time. We contacted EnLight about this and they blamed GRU, claiming they submitted it on time. We’re now in December 2025, over a year later, and they still haven’t done anything. They are trying to avoid fixing their mistake that is going to cost us quite a bit over the years.
