A friend recommended SmartRoof as an ethical, trustworthy provider, and I cannot thank her enough for that recommendation. Eamon, our main contact, understood that I was dealing with everything from afar, and not only became the main interface with the insurance company for us (ultimately getting us literally thousands more in insurance than I thought was possible; they really know what’s claimable and what’s not), but also recommended other ethical, trustworthy businesses for the interior work we needed as well. The entire process was not fast, because we did have to wait for the insurance company more than once, but in the end the quality of work was extremely good, the roof replacement itself only took one day, and insurance paid for far more of it than I expected. “We were happy with the installation and customer service of SmartRoof, however there were a couple significant miscommunications that affected our experience. Our sales salesperson told us that we would get a 30% tax credit on the cost of our solar panels when we filed our taxes. With this information we were looking forward to a big return. However after talking to our accountant we realized that the tax credit is dependent on income and taxes paid which means even if we are entitled to the full 30% it will take us many years to collect the entire benefit. The sales staff should have done a better job of explaining this. Also, one of the technicians told us our solar panels will generate 10% more electricity than we need. Unfortunately, for the last year of operation, our energy usage has always been more than the energy provided by the panels which is a disappointment. That said, SmartRoof has exceptional customer service. When there was a problem with the panels not communicating, they were fast to react and repair the issue. Overall installation and service were good. “Having been a SmartRoof sales representative, I know their inner workings and they should make any homeowner pause.I sold a number of significant roofing jobs and when I left the business, SmartRoof sought to collect over $2000 in commission advances for jobs already installed. This demand was in direct opposition to the communications and emails from the Director of Sales and VP of Sales who promised I would be paid in full. I challenged it before it was withdrawn. The situation highlighted a worrying imbalance, particularly with the REMOVEDand financial leadership, which prompts significant questions about the company’s ethical standards and internal coherence.Homeowners should think hard before joining up with SmartRoof. If the corporation treats its own salespeople like this on earned commissions, it begs valid questions about how they could treat a client over disputes or final payments. There are plenty of other good roofers in town. I would highly suggest looking into other options.SmartRoof would probably reply to reviews like these with canned responses defending its rules. “Smartroof in Virginia may be one of the worst companies I’ve ever worked with. They pushed to get hired for the job, but once I’d signed their agreement, communication was nearly impossible. It took them almost a year to put on my new roof. When I asked for a warranty, they only referred me to the website for the shingles. When i asked again for a warranty, they said that they would send one as soon as I paid the last invoice. They didn’t send one. Now, just over a year after they completed the work, the trim has blown loose, and they told me they take no responsibility. Apparently, there is no warranty on their labor. “Do not fall for all the positive reviews. This job is very misleading and unrealistic. You will work for months and not get paid. They will try to convince you how much money you will earn, how you will be financially free. It’s all a hoax it’s not real. You will realistically work 7+ months and not get paid. You will drive all over the place, chasing leads, trying to build a pipeline and it will all fail. If you have an interview here make sure you ask them how long does it take it get paid? How much does the equipment cost because you will easy spend 1k without even getting on a roof and ask why is the turnover rate so high. “STAY AWAY!!!! Worst company I have ever worked with. 0 communication. No call no show two days, after I took off of work to be there for the job. In total 5 trip out to finish the job sometimes with months in between. The entire job took forever and was drug out for over 8 months and 3 different project managers later. They showed up without the right material (8 new skylights one time) and had to leave twice nd reschedule. Leaving material in my driveway and roof for like 45 days. Installed the wrong soffit and had to hear it from my wife on the phone crying while I was at work. To top it off I had them replace the soffit and facia from almond to white but they were so incompetent they forgot to change the drip edge to white. So im left with white facia and soffit and almond drip edge. When I called to complain the said they will be out to just SPRAY PAINT IT!! My new roof, what kind of professionalism is that! Within the first 2 weeks of the new roof I had a major leak in my basement after the first real heavy rain and when they came out to look they blamed it on my foundation haha EVERY STEP OF THE WAY WAS A BATTLE 0/10 0 stars” – David H. ⭐☆☆☆☆ August 2022

“Run away now!! They over charge, not responsive, definitely not dependable and cause damage! I initiated a contract to replace my entire roof and gutters and add solar panels, back in Jul’21. It’s Jan’22 and they’re still not complete. I can go on and on, literally not a single timeline has been met. Of course, they’re very responsive pre-contract and deposit. Why they overcharge: They are an umbrella company that subcontracts their roofing business to other smaller companies for everything (roofing, solar and gutters). I’ve literally worked with three different teams throughout the process and two project managers (btw, shout out to Donte, probably the only redeeming quality of Smart Roof). Not responsive, it’s taken 2-4 weeks or even months to get a response after you pay the deposit. They’re roofers had to move HVAC exhaust pipe to fit the solar panels and reassembled the PVC incorrectly and cut corners-they didn’t even apply glue to ensure it was water tight! So Smart Roof caused the exact thing they were hired to prevent damage to my ceiling-UNBELIEVABLE! “No one looks forward to replacing their roof but doing it with Smart Roof makes it a much easier process. I started the process with Chris, with a reference from a friend. He did a great job of explaining things and worked very closely with my insurance company to make sure everything was processed properly. If I had any questions I could ask him and he explained everything. He even stopped by during the work to see how everything was going. Jeremy was the second person I worked with who helped me get the best value for the replacement roof and a few extras that I wanted for upgrades. No one likes a hard sale and Jeremy made this process very easy and professional. Finally, Jonathan was the project manager who made sure that everything worked properly during the day of installation and did a final inspection with me to make sure that it was completely clean and the work was conducted professionally. I was very pleased with how he made sure I was comfortable with the final result. The team who put the roof on worked swiftly and professionally. I don’t foresee any problems. “We were overall happy with the initial roof installation in October 2020. However, we noticed some leaks in the summer of 2021. We first filed a warranty claim in July of 2021 and there was no follow up. I called a few more times and was finally put into contact with someone from SmartRoof’s warranty department In October 2021. After about a month, he asked me to text him pictures (attached) to a cell phone number, which I did. There has been no response since November 2021. We are now at about 6 months since the warranty claim was made and no action has been taken by SmartRoof. We are frustrated to have to deal with subpar customer service from the warranty department. “Just spoke with Rene Vega from Warranty Department and was not satisfied with his response to my request. We had our roof replaced in October 2020 and noticed some water damage in one of our spare bedrooms and made contact with Smartroof Warranty Department in 2023 and they sent out a representative that verbally stated the damage was not related to their work, it was previous water from “old” roof. Smartroof never provided us with this report and didn’t provide any information about how the warranty expired after 2 years on workmanship. Today, Rene informed me that was just a ” courtesy visit” and that since this expired years ago that now it would cost $500.00 for a service visit plus repair. I asked to speak to his supervisor Thomas Wells, Vice-President of Production and awaiting that response. We have another contractor that informed us that he could see daylight around a roof vent and recommended that we reach out to the roof company reference warranty claim! We would not recommend Smartroof !!! Poor customer service and terrible warranty service! Do not waste your money with Smartroof!
