“1. We had done our homework in advance of working with Keith and do not feel that there was any attempt to oversell the system. 2. The team which installed the system were a pleasure to observe. They knew what they were doing and accomplished the task in short order. There was no wasted effort. 3. We had a few questions and they were answered politely and directly. 4. The activation to the Duke system was also pretty neat, both in anticipation and explanation of operation. 5. I suspect that most new owners become quickly mesmerized by the graphics of the Tesla software. It’s like watching a pinball machine and you win every time. Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon. “Our Solar Water heating system was installed by Sugar Hollow four years ago. This weekend we had no hot water and no power to our programmable control box. A first. Phelps answered my call for a help on a Sunday afternoon — Remarkable! Not for Phelps, who is quick to return calls, but for service providers in general. “I’m posting a review for the third time now because yet again the Sugar Hollow Team has proven they can be counted on to be superheroes. There was a power outage at our Mt home discovered after a long drive and several months away. We couldn’t find an obvious cause but it was affecting only the outlets backed up to solar. We called and left a late night message that was promptly returned first thing in the morning and the guys had it solved by 10:30AM despite being an hour away. “What is the best part of working at the company? Start-up solar power company in Asheville, NC, the two young men who started Sugar Hollow Solar exhibited great professional attitudes. “In a word, FANTASTIC. Much better than I had hoped. Whenever you hire a contractor you’re taking a chance they treat your job as a priority. There was never any question about that with SH. In fact, the project manager on my job was simply outstanding, keeping us informed about status, managing progress on the job, being considerate about the overall curb appeal of the system, etc. The non-supervisory workers were also excellent, courteous, and hard working. The only reason I’m not giving SH an excellent rating on Price above is that I’m essentially “cheap”, and always believe I could have obtained a better price. Significantly, I had no other contractors with which to compare price, in that I chose SH based on the professionalism of the Staff after the initial visit, and subsequent negotiation of the contract. “I recently completed a solar project with Sugar Hollow Solar. The company has a great process where you have a project manager and a team member contact throughout the process. There is great communication between the homeowner and Sugar Hollow. Eli the crew leader for solar panel install did a fantastic job of installing the panels and testing them. He also was great at answering questions. The battery and system install was done by Andrew and Robbie. They did a great job of getting the batteries in the perfect spot and getting the electrical panel wired. They also answered a lot of battery questions. Each group did a great job at cleaning up at the end of the day and only was here 2 days for solar panel install and 2 days for batteries. I appreciated that they would answer my questions and not just point me back to the project manager. Sugar Hollow does all the work for the permit and county inspection and works with Duke to get you paired into their system. Joseph C worked closely with me to get the Duke pairings and approval. After Duke approval Caroline came out and turned on the system and spends a lot of time training you on the system and the app to run it. I would highly recommend Sugar Hollow Solar. I called the office to find out if he was running late or needed to reschedule and was told that he wasn’t coming. No notice, no emails, no texts. “Update: I added a star because unfortunately it took making this review to get a manager involved who called me and was able to get me on the schedule for the initial appointment I was given and the technician got it fixed for me. The technicians are great people. Not their fault that the office has issues. But the manager fixed the appointment and get it scheduled. If I had just waited on the scheduler I would just now be another month out since it took a month to get the needed part. Also had to deal with her giving me a guilt trip over she was trying her best, and it wasn’t her fault song and dance. Good thing is they at least have competent managers that can sort out issues. The first appointment they had was a month out. Well, I just get a message 2 weeks out that “something came up.” Not sure what came up 2 weeks in the future, but the earlier they would reschedule me was another month out from there. Absolutely unacceptable to move someone that far. Given the new laws going into effect my system is now going to cost me a fortune and is not remotely going to be beneficial after 2027.
