“Purchased 14 solar panels, residential. Original install date was pushed back two months because they sat and twiddled their thumbs waiting for licenses from my town, while the town was waiting for info after explaining to them that they needed this. I know this because after weeks of no updates, I went to my town electrical dept and asked what the hold up was, and they explained that they sent and email to WindFree for info and were waiting for a reply. For MONTHS. After install, this happened again, where they sat on their butts for a month waiting for stuff from Aliant Energy, and I’m the one who pinged them asking what the hold up was, and turns out they were waiting for info from WindFree solar. Then once the panels were installed, I couldn’t activate them until I got certain stickers safety, which WindFree screwed up repeatedly. AND THEN ONE OF THE PANELS WAS DEFECTIVE, AND I HAD TO NAG THEM FOR A MONTH TO GET IT FIXED, AND THEY ALMOST CHARGED ME FOR IT. tldr: It now works, but I’m convinced I’d still be waiting for those panels if I hadn’t done part of their job for them and nagged them for updates.” – dlclevel33 ⭐⭐☆☆☆ August 14, 2023
“I chose them through Energy Sage and accepted their quote in Sept 2022. I chose a 15.54KW system. They agreed to have it installed before Dec 31. They did not even start the installation until Jan 15, 2023. They did not do it, they hired a contractor. The contractor did a good job and the system does work fine. It was commissioned 2/1. I reviewed the power production on the Enphase App. I noticed that the system would maximize at 10.2 KW. I determined that they installed IQ8 inverters which are capable of 240 watts on a 370 watt panel. There are 42 panels so that is 10.2. They had quoted IQ8+ inverters which are capable of 300 watts. They installed the wrong inverters. I have contacted them many times and they are unwilling to resolve the problem. I have never worked with a company that is this bad at customer service. They said that the Quote that I accepted was invalid and they could install what they wanted. I now have an expensive system that puts out 20% less power than it should and they are unwilling to correct. I do not recommend working with them.” – mschaefer ⭐☆☆☆☆ March 3, 2023

I can honestly say we could not have done this without Windfree. The install went well and they do a really good job of making everything look good on the roof, which I really appreciated. They do need to come back a few times to get everything working and hooked up with the monitoring system and ComEd. “The whole process of going from “”I wonder if solar panels might make sense for my roof?”” to actually having something designed / installed and navigating all of the paperwork for various rebates, credits, etc. is a bit daunting. Takes months.Now that I’m at the end of that process, with an installation that I am extremely happy with, I know a lot more than I did when I started. I am really really happy in hindsight that I picked this team (Windfree Solar) to help me.They’ve been extremely professional, detailed, responsive to questions, and diligent in responding to my needs. The process is explained clearly. They follow up. I’ve heard stories of people being less than completely thrilled when they’ve gotten to the end with a solar install.That has not been my experience. I’ve been thrilled. These guys have been great. They are reasonably priced (which in retrospect doesn’t matter as much as you think since you expect to get rebates / credits that pay for a decent chunk of the expense). Consider carefully reading the contract, noting if subcontractors would do the solar panel installation, if so, will Windfree cover losses, if applicable. In addition, make sure all the permit is pulled with your municipal, along with the correct schematics for the solar panels, both were an issue here. After speaking with Adam Perri, Director of Windfree Solar, I was told, due to the workers were subcontractors, the destruction of my personal outdoor equipment and garage was not Windfree problem. All the woes, leaves me with the savings from the schematics of 77% savings, panned out to 18%. Monitoring for the solar panels based on the information I was given was a country outside the U.S., with no option to opt out of 3rd party advertisement. No thank you! “Very bad. The equipment was new to them and they just did not understand how it worked. They said they were finished and everything worked and they left. We didn’t find out until later that it wasn’t working. We hired another company that knew what the hell they were doing and now everything really does work. “I was a little hesitant at first to go with solar for many reasons. After discussing with the sales staff and getting an honest appraisal and analysis of my roof, I felt more comfortable moving forward. I’m glad I did. Very professional staff, clean worksite, thorough and complete work. No pressure for a particular financing plan that I got from another competitor, so was able to do it my way. “Would not hire this company ever again. Found them through a county-run group-buying program. Project management was distant/absent; I found several errors in the engineering documents. Communication within this company is abhorrent. Accounting repeatedly tried to overcharge me after I had signed change orders with the project manager. Installlers did NOT use ANY fall protection on the 20′ high roof. Installer used a tapping device on my main feeder cables that arced and melted the insulation. Good thing the whole house didn’t burn down!! Inverter failed after 5 months. Service manager stopped responding to communications, and I had to escalate the issue to an executive. I lost more than the entire month of June worth of production. The sunniest month of the year! Needless to say my electric bills are NOT $0. “If you look under the hood at Windfree Solar, you’ll find virtually no after-sale service. Despite their hype and rhetoric, their customer care is severely lacking. They promised regular monitoring and annual equipment checks when they did show up a time or two they sent a rookie tech that repeatedly let us know he had no training for our system with battery back up. Had he had proper training I would likely not be mopping water out of my basement after the grid power failed today during a storm.
