Complete Energy Independence Solution
Enphase Energy said it will offer full off-grid system setups that can work without a utility connection when required. The system needs the IQ Battery 5P with built-in grid-forming microinverters, the IQ8 Series Microinverters with Sunlight JumpStart capabilities, and a third-party standby AC generator. All of these things work together to power the house.
How the System Works
Enphase’s all-in-one off-grid solution is designed to fulfill the specific power demands of households. When used off the grid, the parts of the Enphase Energy System work together to effectively power loads and charge batteries. Smart software makes sure that generators are only used when they are needed and that they don’t get damaged by back-feeding electricity. The improved software now has a new “Off-Grid” system profile that may be chosen during commissioning. This lets the system work smoothly without the utility grid while simultaneously working with a generator.
Addressing Growing Energy Independence Needs
As more households want to be energy independent because of increasingly frequent outages and an unstable grid, Enphase’s off-grid solution is meant to work with the utility grid to address the growing need for steady and strong electricity. Several parts of the Enphase Energy System now offer off-grid capabilities, including:
Key System Components
- Microinverters from the IQ8 Series: The IQ8 Series Microinverters may create a grid and enable Sunlight JumpStart. Sunlight JumpStart is designed to automatically recharge the batteries and bring electricity back on the following morning if the microgrid goes down because the batteries are dead and the generator runs out of gas.
- 5P IQ Battery: The third-generation battery from Enphase can provide 3.84 kVA of electricity for every 5 kWh of energy it can hold. You may make your system bigger using Enphase electricity Control, which gives it 40 kWh of capacity and 15.4 kVA of electricity. Homeowners may start big household loads, including HVAC systems and water pumps, using this electricity.
- 3G IQ System Controller: The system controller features an autotransformer that makes 120/240 V split-phase AC and a Generator Interconnect Device (GID) that connects an AC standby generator with batteries and solar power. Users may connect up to 15.4 kW of solar panels and 40 kWh of IQ Batteries, as well as draw up to 15.4 kVA from an AC backup generator. This means they can get up to 46 kVA of power even when they are not connected to the grid. Also, the load management feature lets users automatically regulate loads depending on whether the sun is shining, the generator is connected, and there is enough energy in the batteries.
Enhanced Connectivity Features
The Enphase IQ Combiner 5C HDK now lets each off-grid system connect to the cloud. It combines solar connections, connectivity, and metering into one box. The built-in 4G LTE Cat 4 Modem provides dual-SIM connection with automated failover for locations that don’t have stable internet access. This keeps the system online for real-time monitoring, firmware upgrades, and remote diagnostics. Enphase also sells the modem as a separate accessory for clients who already have vintage IQ Combiner 5 devices that are still available.
Industry Impact
Nitish Mathur, Enphase Energy’s SVP of customer experience, stated, “With the launch of our off-grid solution, we are giving homeowners a reliable path to complete energy independence.” “More than 100 fully off-grid sites are already using Enphase products and working well in real-world conditions.” The Enphase Energy System can provide reliable electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week, thanks to its grid-forming batteries, Sunlight JumpStart technology, and built-in generator support. All of this can be controlled via a single smartphone.
