Through his business, SiteCapture, he has also been instrumental in bringing these new efficiencies to the solar sector. The software platform assists in managing data gathering and verification across the solar array’s whole lifecycle, from site survey to operations and maintenance.


Q: Who is served by SiteCapture, and what issues do you resolve for the sector?

We began in the solar industry back in 2015, so it is our largest industry. Helping solar installers run their companies more profitably and effectively is the main objective. Solar has many requirements for excellent photos and job-site documentation, which is what drew us in.

These requirements include front-end site surveys, installation documentation for quality control or solar financing, and operations and maintenance tasks like work orders and inspections. We’ve also supported the workflows that go along with those procedures over the years, including linking subcontractors and EPCs and submitting to solar financing firms.

We are a platform for managing field operations in the solar business, making all field work more efficient.


Q: What are your EPC and installation customers saying about the current market challenges?

For those who have worked in the solar sector for a long time, this is just another trip on the traditional solar coaster. Many installers are experiencing significant volatility and uncertainty this year as everyone adjusts to the bill’s effects and the elimination of homeowner tax incentives.

The installers we deal with tell us it’s difficult, but everyone views it as a temporary adjustment to the new circumstances. Almost every installer and EPC we speak with wants to know how they can use AI since the cost and demand for energy are rising at the same time, creating a huge long-term potential for the sector.

Q: Tell us about SiteCaptureAI. What effects does AI have on installer operations?

AI is having a significant impact on primarily digital jobs in business, such as writing, accounting, coding, and law. Solar still involves a lot of hands-on work. AI won’t be able to replace the extraordinary talent and knowledge of installers, who must climb onto rooftops and install panels.

In solar, you look at the laborious, time-consuming procedures that surround the installation, such as design verification, creating plan sets for permits, and the quality control and compliance work required to meet financing partner and AHJ criteria. AI will have the greatest effect there.

The quality control and compliance component is the main emphasis of SiteCapture. Our platform is already being used by installers to fill out documents and take pictures. SiteCaptureAI helps them analyze photos instantly, automate first-pass quality control, and provide installers with feedback while they are still on the work site.

Nowadays, that evaluation is done by hand, often hours after submission; the installer has already departed, so you have to send another vehicle to address the problem.


Q: How does SiteCapture support TPO financing, and what results are you seeing?

From a tax incentive standpoint, the measure affected homeowners but had no effect on TPO providers; therefore, the incentive is still in effect. As a result, TPO is now the most affordable and popular option for homeowners who want solar, and the percentage of residential installations completed under TPO is rising significantly.

Before releasing payment to EPCs, TPO providers need extensive paperwork and photographs, which may result in significant overhead. To simplify this, we’ve partnered with solar financing firms to create customized forms that ensure installers capture all necessary images accurately the first time, then submit them to the finance partner with a single click.

After one year, installers’ first-time approval rates on financing documentation have increased from the 30% range to the 90% range with our first partner, Palmetto LightReach. This means they are getting paid more quickly. Additionally, truck rolls for missed photos have decreased by up to 80%, and back-office overhead has decreased by roughly 70%.


Q: What will distinguish successful solar companies from unsuccessful ones in the coming years?

The first step is to adjust to the present situation this year. There will be many changes, such as modifications to tax incentives, and you will need to adapt properly if you want to succeed. The second phase involves getting ready for the impending and unavoidable growth curve.
