The 150 MW Solar Project in Indiana Is Now up and Running for Edp Renewables

EDP Renewables Launches 150 MW Solar Project in Indiana

The newly built project strengthens Indiana’s position as one of the top three markets for utility-scale solar installations as the state moves away from its coal-heavy past.

EDP Renewables North America said that Riverstart Solar IV, a 150 MW utility-scale solar plant near Winchester, Indiana, is now open for business.

The project should produce enough energy each year to power 28,800 households and businesses in the state.

Economic Impact on Randolph County

The plant is a big economic investment in Randolph County, and the business thinks it will have an effect of more than $88 million on the local and regional economy. The investment includes $51.4 million in tax money to help pay for schools and infrastructure in the area, as well as $35 million in compensation to local landowners throughout the life of the project.

Building the property created around 625 jobs. EDP Renewables currently has 2 GW of renewable energy capacity in Indiana, thanks to the completion of Riverstart Solar IV. This makes up about 30% of the state’s total wind and solar power.

Indiana Emerges as National Solar Leader

The project is going live just as Indiana becomes an unexpected leader in the national energy revolution. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) says that this year, Indiana added more solar capacity than any other state except California and Texas. In the past, the state depended on coal, but the fast rise of utility-scale solar is helping to fulfill the rising demand for power caused by the growth of data centers in the area and the electrification of industry.

Along with the project’s infrastructure, the developer has given more than $565,000 to community groups in the area to help with education and workforce development.

The developer is presently working on many additional stages of the Riverstart portfolio to accommodate the rising demand for carbon-free electricity from businesses and utilities. EDPR NA currently runs 2 GW of renewable energy in Indiana, which is enough to power more than 527,000 households. The business has built more than 12.8 GW of renewable energy projects around the country, including 61 wind projects, 29 solar projects, and eight energy storage projects.
