From the initial planning visits through the installation, the crew was polite, professional and very knowledgeable. The owners were very helpful in working with us with payment issues and making it easy to fit on our schedule. We thought that the pricing was better than some of the other quotes we had received. The installation crew headed up by Brandon and Tyler were extremely hard working, polite and efficient. They kept a clean work site which was important since were are living there. Our almost 70 year old, multiply rennovated house presented some interesting challenges for them but they were able to get done what we wanted. On the day that power had to be shut down, Brandon and Tyler stayed until 10 pm even though we tried to send them home. ‘We are not going to leave you without having you up and running tonight.’ That is the kind of dedication and service that we received from them. “We started thinking about solar several years ago, finally deciding to get serious this past summer. We initially contacted Powerhome due to online and media advertisements. Let’s just say, they’re not ready for primetime. We learned about Renew through our utility company, so I gave them a call and asked a few questions. John, the owner, said it would probably be best if they came out and surveyed our property for the best installation solution. He brought an engineer, which really impressed me as he was able to answer several questions on the spot about installation and logistics surrounding the utility run we needed to make. I followed up a few days later with a list of technical questions as I was attempting to make an apples-to-apples comparison with another solar provider. Renew answered promptly and completely. One of the things that impressed me was their recommendation to use bi-facial panels on our barn’s metal roof. These panels provide an up to 25% boost in generating potential by capturing reflected solar energy that passes through the panel and bounces off whatever is behind the panel. A higher reflective background equals greater production potential, so my barn’s metal roof was perfect for these panels. Their pricing was highly competitive and the warranty and after sale support looked excellent. The crew came out and did an excellent job with the install. “My first quote was about $17k for a 7kw system. I expressed interest and a meeting was set. At the meeting, I was quoted about $43k for the same system with 2 more batteries (after 3 days of ‘engineering ‘) that confirmed a 7k system was correct. They set up a new meeting when I told them that was too expensive for 2 batteries.At the last meeting (after one day of ‘engineering ‘), it was decided that I needed a 9kw system for about $62k. “I was put in contact with ReNew by QMerit the company hired by Cadillac to run its rebate EV charger installation program. On the first call I was asked if a third party would be paying part of the cost. I refused to answer that question but did reply that shouldn’t make any difference. Cadillac was paying the first $1,500. Then I was asked questions about the install and to send pictures of the proposed location of the EV charger. Then without coming out to my house to see what would actually be involved I was supplied a quote, not unexpectedly more than the Cadillac allowance of $1,500. I reluctantly agreed to the quote. Then for several days I heard nothing. I contacted the QMerit person handling the transaction about the lack of follow up. He prodded ReNew to call me. The gentleman called and said he would follow up in a few days with an appointment to come to my house. He didn’t. I contacted QMerit again. That was about a month since I had accepted the quote. Then I received an email that an appointment had been scheduled for a date about six weeks after the initial contract. By this time I had sought a second estimate for the work. That estimate was over $1,000 less than ReNew’s quote. I was able to cancel the QMerit deal and Cadillac gave me the alternative of receiving free charging for two years. So even though I will pay more initially out of pocket for the installation I will receive enough to more than offset that cost. From comments on several GM and Cadillac sites, my experience has not been unusual with the QMerit approved installers appearing to overcharge. If QMerit continues to use ReNew in the Nashville area and your work is forwarded to them maybe you will have a better experience.
