The 5-MW Solar Installation at the Wastewater Facility Should Save the City $25 Million

Project Completion Announcement

ForeFront Power is happy to announce that they have finished a 5-MW solar project at the Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant (EWWTP) in Vacaville, California. There is also an energy storage system on the property, but no information about its scale was made public.

Energy Generation and Cost Savings

Every year, the EWWTP system will generate over 8.1 million kWh of clean energy. The solar and storage system is expected to save the city more than $25 million in power expenses by meeting the EWWTP facility’s yearly electrical needs.

Mayor’s Statement

Vacaville Mayor John Carli remarked,

“Vacaville’s sustainability goals are about better outcomes for people—healthier air, smarter use of resources, and reliable public services.”

“This project will help power operations that are important for reducing public health risks and our impact on the environment by combining solar power with smart battery storage at an industrial facility that treats an average of 7.5 million gallons of wastewater every day.”

Power Purchase Agreement Details

The city and ForeFront Power signed a 20-year PPA to build the EWWTP solar and storage system. According to the PPA, ForeFront Power owns and takes care of the system. The city buys the power at a cheaper, set cost than the utility, which protects the city’s budget from rate hikes and makes it easier to plan for the long term. ForeFront Power will keep running and taking care of the system for the whole time the PPA is in effect, and the city won’t have to pay anything for it.
