Solar Trek review

Solar Trek gets the Average Performer badge and works in 1 state, but their third-party ratings don't go above 4. Local community trust isn't their strong suit either - their score is 4.0 in our evaluation. This badge means they are somehow reliable, but you need to pay more attention to what they have to offer. While Solar Trek may not lead the pack, they are certainly recognized for their capacity to meet a broad range of solar installation needs with commendable customer satisfaction. When considering this solar installer, you can add Solar Trek to your list as a lower priority and one that requires additional research before you decide to work with them.

What Do Customers Say About the Solar Trek?

Positive reviews:

“I am so incredibly happy we were referred to Kyle and Solar Trek! After we got completely screwed over by another solar company in the area, Kyle came to our rescue. I spoke with him on the phone around noon and he was here at 5pm to help us! He knew exactly what needed done and made the repairs on the spot! He was able to answer all our questions about the system that we’ve had for 2 years and never been able to even to turn on. I am so please and looking forward to a wonderful customer relationship with Solar Trek moving forward. Thank you for saving the day!” – Akg0614 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ August 22, 2023

“Experienced a small leak after three years. Solar Trek, Ocala Florida responded immediately, fixed the problem and is paying to repaint entire ceiling effected. Been a customer of solar York for thirteen years and after this outstanding effort on their part, a customer for life.” – gpw8920 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ September 13, 2019

Negative reviews:

“We paid Solar Trek to put in their Solar Pool Heater in October 2022. They did not get the required permit and installed the work illegally. They told us they HAD the permit when we scheduled the work. They did not. We are only in Florida for the winter months and they knew this from the beginning. To our surprise, we discovered their Solar Heater does not work well in the winter months! The pool has only been warm enough to swim 2 times so far. Then we discovered the Solar System had not been attached to our roof properly! Only 7 out of 23 lag screws (the ones we can see) were attached to the roof trusses as promised and required by their engineering specs and the manufacturer. They failed to install 64 screws that connect the 2 halves of the clamps that hold the solar collectors to the roof. This is also required by their engineering specs and the manufacturer. Then, they tried to sell us a Heat Pump for more money. We turned that down because they had lied to us repeatedly, lied about getting a permit and didn’t do the work properly or as designed. Now we are in a battle to get this resolved. Our pool is too cold to us 95% of the time, and they won’t even send someone to look at the terrible work they did! On 12-21-23 we asked them to remove the Solar Trek System from our roof and give our money back. Patrick Altier, Solar Trek, Inc. owner, said they would send a refund check out that day and remove the system the following week. They never sent the check and never came out! A week later they sent a “Release and Covenant not to Sue”. They said they would not give us our money back or remove their system from our roof until AFTER we signed and notarized this document. They also wanted to “PATCH” the 42 holes they put in our roof! These patches will leak, but we will have no right to sue, and would be stuck replacing the roof ourselves! We are completely dissatisfied with this company. All we wanted was to get what we paid for, nothing more nothing less. What they did to us is a crime! Robert S. “There were so many companies to chose from but Solar Trek checked all the boxes for us. Almost 40 years in the business, recommended by our electric company, great warranty, quality solar panels, the unique mounting system, monitoring, etc. Our salesman “”Todd”” sealed the deal with his knowledge of the different systems available and was always easy to communicate with. “”Kyle”” our electrician was excellent as were the other installation technicians. We could not be happier with our new home solar system.” – Tim R ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ December 11, 2019

“We chose Solar Trek not only because of the price but also the personal one on one help they gave us every step of the way. We had questions after the install and the owner came out and went over things with us and inspected his installers work! This gave us peace of mind.” – Kevin and Tanya ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ June 1, 2019

“To Patrick A. (Solar Trek) I would like to thank you and your crew that repaired a roof leak caused by my solar panels pool heater brackets. On 11/09/2021 you sent two great techs to evaluate, find and repair the leak on my roof. They spent about 1 & 1/2 hours finding and resealing the mounting brackets, I was super pleased with their expert knowledge of the repairs they made. Matt and Elijah were two of the nicest techs I’ve ever met. They were very professional and seemed very caring and thorough with the repairs they made. I can’t say enough good things about this company. The original system was installed in 2012. When I asked Matt for the bill, he said it was covered under warranty. That just goes to show you, Solar Trek stands behind their work, even after 9 years! They really do care about their customers and their reputation. Bottom line, They are a Five Star Company that you can trust. Thank you again Solar Trek. You have a customer for life! Sincerely, David & Sharon Corey.Ocala,FL” – David C. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ November 10, 2021

“Solar Trek had the best pricing compared to other solar installers. They installed an 8kw solar system on my roof which is performing well. Staff was very professional and responsive. Had an equipment failure, not Solar Trek fault, and they got out to my house and took care of the situation and handled all warranty claims for the equipment. I would do business again with Solar Trek and recommend them since they are local for me! The owner even called me after the install to ensure I was a happy customer and asked for feedback for improved customer service.” – Clark D. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ May 11, 2025

Negative reviews:

“Called to report a leak in my water heating system. They have put me off for over a week. Said to just turn it off. Said they are only in the area on Tuesdays and my call too late to get in tomorrow. So totally dissatisfied. Worked with this company in the ’80s and ’90s and they were great. No more.” – EquineInn T. ⭐☆☆☆☆ March 6, 2023

“If you’re trying to save money, buy a Tankless water heater. If you’re trying to save the environment, find another way. The panels for these solar water heaters are supposed to be “”self protective”” against freezing by emptying the near freezing water through a relief valve, replacing it with fresh water. Supposedly, the system can handle one night of freezing without a problem and that is flatly Not true. Our solar panel was replaced in March 2018 due to a freeze and the ‘new’ unit froze again in 2020 with a 6 hour freeze. The owners manual specifically states, the unit should be able to handle a one night freeze. They conveniently don’t cover freeze damage under warrantee which is also Not transferrable. Replacement of the solar panel costs $1750 labor incl. Figure that into your budget when purchasing. If you want to save money and the environment, Go Tankless.” – Lou L. ⭐☆☆☆☆ July 14, 2022

“From the perspective of outside looking in this company was rainbows and pots of gold, once in I quickly found out this was not the case, leave early and get home late, if the boss or management don’t like something that was done they hold your pay over your head as a disciplinary action (threatening to reduce your hourly wage even if it wasn’t something you could control) Good luck getting a raise, management constantly makes excuses of how worker performance is not up to par to allow for pay increases, yet the company is expanding and the owner is buy 3/4 of a million dollar boat? All and all of you want to be talked down to and underpaid this is your match made in heaven” – Solar Technician ⭐☆☆☆☆ June 11, 2020

“We are pleased with the job that Solar Trek employees Chris and Justin did. They worked all day to remove our older solar system and install the new one. They worked steadily throughout the day and had a very good work ethic. Chris allowed us to record his explanation of how to use the Solar Pool Heating system. We highly recommend this company and especially Chris and Justin” – John L. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ February 2019

“In the community in which we live in Central Florida there is a requirement that the roofing shingles be replaced every 15 years. We were aware of this requirement when we purchased our home and were also aware that it was our responsibility to remove our solar water heater roof panel before the re-roofing could be done. Due to some errors and circumstances our.notice that the roofing work was to be begun was very short.Solar Trek was recommended to us as a company that could do the work and do it quickly. This proved to be absolutely true. A phone call resulted in their technicians arriving within two days. Their removal was professional and speedy. In addition they removed the roof panel from our premises and stated that they would take it to their facility, test, repair as necessary and clean it. When the roofing was completed they brought back a pristine panel, replaced it quickly and had our system up and running perfectly. Lastly, we had requested a price quote for this work from another firm. Solar Trek did the work for half the cost.” – George J. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ June 2014

“I just spoke with Linda, who said she would refuse to give her name until she finished talking, after being disrespectful and belittling too – I just wanted her name so that I could tell their management about how she “”handled”” me. I did tell T&D what transpired in addition to reaching out to a manager named Shelby. I waited an entire week for Solar Trek to get back to me about my ISWIM solar repair which they said they were going to charge to repair despite the previous repair failing, and irregardless to T&D assuring me that my ISWIM was grandfathered with it’s original 10 year warranty. So Solar Trek is not honoring what T&D said when they acquired T&D’s business. Solar Trek does not get back to people because I waited an entire week for a follow-up that was never provided, and when I followed up with them, they were super rude about it! I will need to replace this solar which is close to its life/limit and will now need to seek a different/respectful solar company to do so 🙁 After this morning’s disturbing treatment, I went online to learn who the Solar Trek staff were to see if I could reach out to a manager, only to find the management and owner(s) are not listed! I also found a massive amount of reviews from other customers all echoing the same feeling that this company’s culture regardless of the staff member is they treat people terribly, with grave disrespect.” – Selena Belisle ⭐☆☆☆☆ September 2025

“Solar Trek installed a solar panel on my roof to heat my pool. A few years later I had a new roof installed. I could have had my roofer remove and dispose of the solar panel at no additional cost. Solar Trek said they would carefully remove the panel and then reinstall the panel when the new roof was completed for $825. I agreed. Solar Trek removed the panel, but not carefully. When the new roof was completed, Solar Trek said they couldn’t remount the panel on my roof but would be happy to sell me a completely new system in my back yard. Their engineer said they didn’t like roof mounting systems anymore. Then they tried to collect the $825 even though they lied about being able to reinstall the system and didn’t reinstall the system. These people have no integrity.” – Roger Obenauf ⭐☆☆☆☆ 2024
