What Do Customers Say About the Sundog Solar?

solarreviews.com

Positive reviews:

“We have been pleased with every step of our solar planning and installation. Chuck was patient in answering all my questions and the electricians and installers were ALL professional and helpful. The finished product was well done with an eye for the best install. They are a wonderful group to work with and very knowledgeable. I honestly have nothing I could wish improved.” – Don ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ March 25, 2025

“We are 95% complete with our solar installation with Sundog Solar. Deciding to go forward with a home solar system here in Maine can be a daunting experience, but the teams at Sundog Solar made this a fairly easy task. They helped us through all phases and we worked with them to get the best system for our home. Since our roof does not face south, we opted for a ground based array. After sizing the system to provide for our current average monthly needs, we increased the capacity slightly since we will be retiring within the next 10 years and will be spending more time at home which tends to increase electricity usage. The management team at Sundog worked hard for us and found us a very low interest loan that makes the monthly payment the same as our current electric bill. So instead of paying the electric company, we will be paying off the loan. Because of this, there is no extra monthly cost for the system. We are waiting for the final hookup with our power company since this is a net meter installation and then we’ll start enjoying the benefits of solar.” – Walstib ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ November 27, 2018

Negative reviews:

“So the installers and electricians were awesome, however the sales man seemed a bit uninformed and quoted us a price, then after paying the initial payment forgot to add hardware to the quote which added a SIGNIFICANT amount more to the actual price. Seemed a bit unprofessional, that being said the final product seems good so far.” – Shecpink ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ July 13, 2017

Positive reviews:

“We are new to Maine and decided to add solar panels and heat pumps. After researching our options and receiving proposals from several solar installers, we decided on Sundog Solar. Simple reason for our choice was Danny Piper, the owner. The systems have been installed now for a few weeks and everything is performing as promised. Solar output is exactly what was projected on the proposal. The heat pumps are quiet and effective. The installation was smooth because Danny and his team are good at what they do. If you are looking for Solar or Heat Pumps, we highly recommend Sundog Solar” – Rich P. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ September 16, 2016

“Very pleasant folks to do business with, they installed two heat pumps for us all in one day, their team worked together flawlessly, never stopped, neat, polite, stayed late and got it all done, even took off their shoes in the house AND vacuumed. The price was very competitive with other quotes we received, we chose SunDog because they were responsive and they were very patient with my thousand questions.” – Carol A. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ June 29, 2015

Negative reviews:

“Sundog Solar misrepresented the capabilities of the Daikin heat pump system they sold and installed for us. We were promised a system capable of serving as our primary heating source in Maine winters, with the flexibility to add a third indoor unit later. Instead, we got a 24k BTU system that maxes out with two heads, struggles in the cold, and was falsely advertised as higher-capacity in their own proposal. When we raised concerns, they claimed it was a “typo” and refused to take accountability. Complaints have been filed with the AG, BBB, FTC, and Daikin. I strongly recommend others look elsewhere if they expect honesty, technical competence, or follow-through. It will cost an additional $6000 to swap the unit they installed for one matching the original proposal.” – David H. ⭐☆☆☆☆ May 31, 2025

“Sundog Solar installed a 9.68 KW system at our home May 2021. The inverter went to hell the first of August while my wife and I were away. Noticed the system was down when we got home the first of Septemberand called Sundog. They checked it out on line and said the inverter was bad and would order a new one but it would take a month. When they came in mid October to install it the new one was defective also. They then did me the favor of taking one of thier shelve and installed it. It has been working well until a week and ahalf ago. I have been calling since then to get it repaired they take down my name and number and tell me they will look into it and call right back. They ghost me . Now I think I will have to go to Searsport to be face to face to get my system repaired.” – Ken O. ⭐☆☆☆☆ July 9, 2024

Positive reviews:

“We chose Sundog Solar to provide the solar energy system for our new off-grid mountain home. This was a great decision! Our home was a challenging large scale project. We needed a very large system that was capable of providing consistent reliable energy throughout the year. My wife has health issues and I needed to be certain that I could keep her comfortable at all times. I worked with the sundog engineers to develop a very sophisticated and reliable system. I was very pleased with this process and confident in my discussions with them. The installation was highly professional and exactly to spec. Sundog uses experienced highly qualified professionals for the installation and all work is done per the National Electric Code (NEC) and North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). They also use the highest quality solar products. Our system consisted of a large array of panels, a battery energy storage system and a back up generator. We have been in the home for four months and everything works flawlessly and provides more energy than we consume. I am extremely pleased with this system and the work of the Sundog team! I highly recommend them!” – Steve Burch ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ July 2025

“We had a great experience with Sundog. From the initial contact, to permitting, installation and then warranty work the folks at Sundog made everything easy. They were skilled, engaged, timely and happy to communicate. As a result of their planning and efforts, we have enough power to run our house and an EV.” – Roger Lown ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2025

Negative reviews:

“Review reflects customer service, communication, and proposal/ contract for solar installation. At the time, I was sold on price, availability, and warranty. Now, I would choose any other solar company.” – Emily Andrews ⭐☆☆☆☆ February 2026
