PowerSecure, a part of Southern Company, will build a 1.25-MW solar and 21.6-MWh energy storage project for Powder River Energy Corporation (PRECorp) in Moorcroft, Wyoming.
This project will assist PRECorp in addressing peak demand issues on the grid caused by industrial development and rural load growth. It will also lower its members’ yearly power bills and make the system more reliable by adding backup capacity. The device should also help PRECorp save up to $1 million a year on wholesale power expenditures. It will also provide backup power during outages and bad weather.
Jim Smith, president of PowerSecure, stated,
“This project is about giving PRECorp’s members real value.” “We’re helping the cooperative handle peak demand, improve reliability, and control costs by combining battery storage and solar generation. We’re also making sure the system is ready to support future growth.”
The project should take around two years, and the system should be up and running by 2027.
Brian Mills, CEO of PRECorp, stated,
“Our value to our members has always been that we have to be a trusted energy partner. This whole project is full of technology and experience that will help us give our members the value they expect from our cooperative.”
